2010 Silver Medal- San Francisco International Wine Competition, 2010 Bronze Medal- Indy International Wine Competition

This lovely Pinot comes from a Dijon Clone planted vineyard, which is located on the western edge of the city of Santa Rosa at the southeastern edge of the Russian River Valley. This wine is ruby to garnet in color. On the nose it displays ripe fruit aromas of raspberry, cherry, and strawberry with notes of dark earth and smoky oak. On the palate, there are concentrated flavors of dried cherry, hard candy, and vanilla. It has a nice, long, fruit driven finish.

The grapes for this selection come from a 35 year old, Wente Clone Vineyard, planted on the Sonoma County side of Carneros, just south of the town of Sonoma. This wine is pale yellow, straw in color. Aromas of tropical fruit, pineapple & mango mingle with hints of ripe melon, green apple and toasty oak. It is well balanced with a full body and moderate oak. Flavors of passion fruit, caramel, and zesty citrus show through in the long finish.

This is our third release of this popular varietal. The grapes form this selection come from a 35-year-old Wente Clone vineyard on the Sonoma County side of Carneros, just south of the town of Sonoma. The wine is bright and golden straw in color. Aromas of tropical fruit mingle with hints of melon, apple and vanilla. With a well-balanced palate and moderate oak, flavors of passion fruit, pineapple and mandarin orange show through.

The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon offers a bouquet of leather, currant, and pipe tobacco aromas. The palate is rich with smoke, cedar, blackberry, and stone fruits. The 2005 is remarkably smooth and offers notes of espresso on the finish. Although young, the wine will show beautifully with an hour of aeration and will improve over the next 5 to 8 years.

Deep scarlet in color, the 2005 Merlot is luscious and velvety exhibiting black cherries and red licorice on the nose. Dried cranberry, earth, and cedar tones intertwine on the palate, the wine is rounded off with hints of dark chocolate and finishes with a strong backbone of acidity. The wine is currently showing well after several hours of decanting and should improve over the next 3 to 5 years.

This is a blend of “Burgundy” and “California” styles. Initially, the wine shows hints of earth and mushroom which slowly fade to bright aromas of violets, cherries and vanilla spice. In the mouth, there are plenty of plum and raspberry fruit flavors which finish round, rich and warm. This approachable wine will pair well with any season pork or fowl and salmon. It also would be delicious with a slightly marinated portabello mushroom right off the grill.
